International students in the U.S. on an F-1 visa are generally only eligible to work on campus up to 20 hours per week when school is in session. Working more than 20 hours may result in a loss of the F-1 status.
An exception to the 20 hours/week rule is during break periods when an international student is not taking classes, for example summer, winter holiday, and spring break. The international student may work on campus full-time during a break period.
F-1 students are not eligible for Federal Work Study employment.
